Update 18 February
Cadent Gas are going to take the opportunity – with the current diversion route now well established – to replace all the old eight inch steel gas main on the A320 down to the River Bourne, where they will link into the new pipe already at that location.
Current estimates are that all works will be completed by June 2020, but we'll monitor progress/problems encountered and review that date in due course and keep all up to date with the progress.
Road closure for emergency gas works
A320 northbound between the McLaren roundabout and the Otter Roundabout
These are being undertaken by Cadent Gas to manage and control a potentially dangerous situation with high readings of leaking gas.
The works will remain ongoing and we are currently in discussions with Cadent Gas regarding the best way to provide a longer term resolution to the multiple leakages that have been experienced on this section of road. Because of this it is not possible at this moment to advise the date these works will be completed.
Why have I not had any notice?
These are emergency gas works. Where there is a situation such as this the Utility Company have powers whereby they can start the necessary works without any forewarning due to the potential consequences of any delay.
We are fully aware of the disruption and problems being caused and have been in discussions with Cadent Gas to agree a way forward to resolve this issue most effectively.
Where is the closure exactly?
The northbound carriageway of the A320 Guildford Road will be closed between the Mclaren roundabout and the Otter Roundabout with traffic diverted along Woodham Lane and the A318 New Haw Road. This closure will be put in place coincident with the removal of the temporary traffic signals.
Will the A320 be opened southbound?
Yes. The south bound A320 Guildford Road will be unobstructed and able to flow freely as will traffic heading towards Cobham at the Otter Roundabout.
