Update 2 May
SES Water still have further engineering works to complete, following this there will be a further period of testing and chlorination of the new pipes in order to fully complete the project. This testing and chlorination work will require some excavations to be open. The excavations open will be in the left filter lane at the junction of A217 and Fir Tree Road, and on the southbound A217 adjacent to Chipstead Road. These works are scheduled to be fully completed by 15 June. Also during May there will be a two day road closure of the A240 in order to carry out some remedial works following inspections undertaken by Surrey County Council officers.
Reason for works
Installation of a new 500mm plastic water mains pipe as part of the directive from Ofwat to provide greater flexibility and resilience for distributing water to customers, particularly during periods of low rainfall and drought.
The 2.8 kilometre water mains pipe will be installed between the existing reservoirs at Burgh Heath and Nork. A detailed assessment of the route has been undertaken and environmental management measures agreed with stakeholders.
