What major road maintenance involves

Major Maintenance generally involves removing one or more layers of the existing road and replacing them.

Due to the complex nature of these schemes they can often involve road closures or temporary traffic lights being put in place to control traffic during the works.

To save money and minimise disruption, we try, where possible, to coordinate this work with other schemes such as pavement, drainage or road improvements.

For information on roads that will have major road maintenance carried out this year, please go to our planned maintenance page.
