Wider Staines Sustainable Transport Package (STP): Stanwell - North Ashford - Staines

What is the Wider Staines STP?

The Wider Staines STP is package of measures that will improve sustainable travel options in Stanwell, north Ashford and Staines town centre. The improvements are intended to make it easier and more appealing for people to get around the area on foot, by bicycle and by public transport.

During Spring 2016, we consulted the public on a number of ideas that we were considering taking forward as part of the project (consultation material is available at the bottom of this page). Your views (PDF) helped to support our funding application to the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership and enabled us to develop and refine the proposals further.

It was confirmed in early 2017 that Surrey County Council has been awarded funding from the Enterprise M3 to allow construct the Wider Staines STP. We are now working with our partners at Spelthorne Borough Council to deliver this project and ensure that the works complement other local developments.

What is happening?

The project aims to provide safe and attractive routes that people will want to use when travelling to work, to the shops or for leisure. These routes connect to regularly visited locations such as Staines town centre, Ashford Hospital and Heathrow Airport. This will include the following measures:

  • pavements and pedestrian areas that are wide, well surfaced and well lit
  • safe road crossing facilities for pedestrians and cyclists
  • cycle routes which are continuous and separated from busy traffic
  • bus accessibility improvements that make it is easier to get on/off of buses and to/from bus stops
  • improved bus waiting facilities such as new shelters and ‘real time’ information displays that show when the next bus is due.
