The scheme began in early 2015 and will reinvent, expand and transform Leatherhead town centre to fully realise its potential as a distinctive, enterprising and highly regarded market town.
Surrey County Council will be working in association with Mole Valley District Council throughout this scheme which will be co-funded by both councils.
Phase One – Church Street improvement works
The first phase of the Transform Leatherhead scheme will deliver improvements to the quality of the environment for pedestrians, residents, visitors, cyclists, motorists, retailers and businesses on Church Street.
The detailed designs for phase one are currently being finalised and we expect these to be completed by the end of November 2016. This will be followed by a tendering period in December 2016 to enable us to start the improvement works in January 2017. These dates are subject to change and you can find future updates on this page.
The main objectives of phase one are to:
- create a high quality public realm
- improve the entrance to The Leatherhead Theatre
- increase footway widths where possible to encourage use of the space for outdoor seating
- allow access for deliveries to existing and proposed businesses
- minimise the loss of on-street parking and
- reduce street clutter.
