The scheme will involve the completion of essential carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing works in Preston Lane, Tadworth.
These works started on Monday 6 March 2017 and will be ongoing for approximately 35 working days.
When are we doing these works?
Stage one - completed on Wednesday 15 March 2017 from Epsom Lane North to the centre of the junction with Allum Grove.
Stage two - located from the centre of the junction with Allum Grove to Waterfield.
Works update 23 March 2017: during our excavation works we uncovered a sewage pipe that has eroded and is now leaking. Thames Water have investigated the sewage system to determine the extent of the damage and they have found 70m of eroded pipe which is leaking badly and is now in need of urgent repair. They anticipate that the repair works will take approximately three weeks to complete. Whilst the repairs are taking place they will take the opportunity to upgrade and install protection on the existing pipework.
The main issue has been located within this excavated section which will need to remain closed whilst these works are completed. Thames Water will be working six days a week to complete these repairs (Monday – Saturday). Vehicle access to Allum Grove will be maintained during this stage but unfortunately it won't be possible to access The Knowle sheltered housing car park.
Stage three - starting Monday 27 March 2017 for approximately two weeks, Preston Lane will be closed for 24 hours each day from the junction with Bidhams Crescent to the junction with Merland Rise.
Please note: access to properties may be severely delayed and not possible at certain times. If you need to use your vehicle please park away from where the work will be taking place. Access by foot will be allowed when safe to do so.
Specific access requirements can be discussed with the site foreman or traffic management team who will endeavour to help where possible. The hours we will be working on site are between 8am and 4pm (Monday to Friday).
A diversion route will be in place during the road closure - please follow the diversion signs.
Buses: to find out which bus stops are affected please visit our temporary changes to bus services page.
Why we are doing these works?
Investigation works were previously carried out in the worst section of Preston Lane at the junction with Waterfield in July 2016. Following these excavation works we found that a full depth reconstruction of the carriageway and additional reinforcement is required. We then carried out a trial resurfacing area and monitored it for any movement.
Our investigation works found that sections of the road were failing, and it is now necessary to carry out carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing works.
