Surrey County Council has an important role in the delivery of local bus services. The county council subsidises socially necessary services where they cannot be provided commercially, which amounts to around a third of the bus services operating in Surrey. We are also responsible for the highways on which the buses run, the traffic signals, junctions and bus lanes that can expedite their movement, as well as bus stop infrastructure, information and passenger waiting facilities that can make a big difference to a passenger's travel experience.
This Local Bus strategy sets out the statutory framework, the challenges, and the county council's aim, objectives and preferred strategy approach. It has been updated in 2014 to take account of the Surrey Rail Strategy.
