Surrey County Council is proposing to improve pedestrian crossing facilities on the A246 Guildford Road, Bookham near the junction with Groveside.
This proposal is in response to a petition that was submitted to the Mole Valley Local Committee in September 2019. The petition expressed concerns about the safety of pedestrians crossing the A246 Guildford Road, between the junctions of Groveside and Hawkwood Rise. Following the submission of the petition, the Mole Valley Local Committee, which is where local councillors meet to discuss and decide on issues that matter to local communities, decided to allocate some funding from the Integrated Transport Scheme budget to fund pedestrian crossing improvements at this location.
To improve pedestrian crossing facilities on this section of the A246 Guildford Road, it is proposed to install a pedestrian island to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross.
The plan below shows the proposed location for the new pedestrian island which is to be located just to the east of the junction with Groveside, and just to the west of the existing bus stop layby. This new pedestrian island will be installed with dropped kerbs and tactile paving to make it easier and safer for pedestrians, particularly school children, to cross the A246 Guildford Road to access the bus stops and local schools.
