Surrey County Council is proposing to improve pedestrian access to the existing bus stops on the A25 Reigate Road, Buckland in the vicinity of The Squires Garden Centre. This proposal is in response to concerns raised by residents that the bus stop currently located on the grass verge outside The Buckland Pool and building company is inaccessible for those pedestrians with pushchairs, wheelchair and mobility scooter users.
In order to improve access to the bus stop, a pedestrian island needs to be provided to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross the A25 Reigate Road. An initial assessment was carried out to look at the possibility of installing such an island on the A25 Reigate Road near to where the existing bus stop is located outside The Buckland Pool and building company. However, it was discovered during this assessment that installing a pedestrian island at this location, would not be possible because it would restrict vehicle turning movements out of private driveways. Therefore, the existing bus stop outside the Buckland Pool and building company needs to be moved a short distance to improve pedestrian access to the bus stop.
The proposed new location of the bus stop is to be located just to the east of the entrance to Chesterfield Park and west of the entrance to Shagbrook. A new pedestrian island is to be installed with dropped kerbs and tactile paving to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross the A25 Reigate Road in order to access the bus stops. New higher kerbs will be installed at this new bus stop, and the existing bus stop for buses travelling towards Dorking, in order to create level access between the pavement and the buses. Additional dropped kerbs will also be provided at the entrance to Shagbrook.

Subject to the outcome of this consultation, it is planned to relocate the existing bus stop and install the pedestrian island before the end of March 2021.
