Project overview
Improvement works to make Boxgrove Roundabout in Guildford safer and more accessible, are due to start in October 2026.
Zebra crossings will be installed on every entry and exit to give clear priority to pedestrians and cyclists travelling through the area, creating a much safer environment for all road users.
The project is expected to take approximately six months. To minimise disruption to local residents and road users, it is proposed that there will be no traffic lights or road closures during the day on the roundabout, with works affecting traffic taking place during the night (7pm-7am).

Why are you making changes to Boxgrove Roundabout?
This investment reflects our commitment to creating safer, more people-friendly streets. The new active travel roundabout is expected to significantly improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and all road users while helping to encourage more walking and cycling in the area.
How much will the works cost and where is the funding coming from?
The funding is from central government, specifically from Active Travel England and the cost of the works is expected to be £2 million. This money can only be used for active travel and not used for maintenance, such as potholes.
Were these changes consulted on?
This scheme has been developed following extensive community engagement carried out throughout 2023 and 2024. Local residents and stakeholders were actively consulted, and the feedback showed strong support for this improvement.
How will residents be informed of the works?
We will inform residents of upcoming works through letters and advance warning signs. We will also be updating this project webpage to notify residents of any changes and key updates.
How will the work affect businesses and residents?
We will make sure residents and businesses can get to and from their homes or businesses when it is safe to do so to keep disruption to a minimum.
Will it be noisy during works?
Our contractor will take every measure to reduce noise and disturbance during night-time working hours.
What will happen to the existing trees on the roundabout?
The two large trees will remain on the roundabout in their current locations. The three smaller trees will be preserved and relocated to areas within the verges of the roundabout.
