Tandridge parking review 2018-19

Coronavirus: suspension of parking related activities

As of 25 March 2020, we are postponing the installation, refreshment or replacement of any road markings or traffic signs relating to parking controls or restrictions in Surrey for a period of three weeks. This is in order to protect our contractors and suppliers and the wider public in the current coronavirus outbreak. This is in line with the council's overarching policy to pause any non-safety critical works on the highway. We will review this decision at the end of the three week period.

There are a number of stages involved in the review, these are shown below. Due to the number of stages in the review, we are not expecting to have completed it until towards the end of 2019.

The current stage is: Implementation

During September and October 2018, we looked at parking problems across the borough. These were brought to our attention mostly by members of the public, the police, councillors and highway officers, since the previous review took place. We visited, assessed, and prioritised the requests for new or amended parking controls, and created a report of our findings and recommendations.

Committee authorisation

We presented the report to Surrey County Council's Local Committee for Tandridge at its meeting on 30 November 2018 and you can see a copy of it on the local committee pages on our website. The committee agreed with the recommendations in the report and gave approval for the proposals to be advertised.

Advertisement and objections

We formally advertised our intention to introduce the new parking controls and restrictions by way of a notice in the Surrey Mirror on 30 May. We also put up notices on lamp posts near where the new restrictions will be and notified by post people likely to be most directly affected. There then followed a 28 day period during which people could let us have their comments about the proposed new controls and restrictions, which ended on Thursday 27 June 2019.

The parking team manager, in consultation with the chairman/vice chairman of the local committee and the county councillor for each area, has now considered all the comments and objections that we received and made the final decisions about which proposals will be implemented, with or without changes. At the bottom of this page there are a series of decision reports, which contain the objections and comments received, followed by the decisions and the reasons for them.

If we did not receive any comments about a proposal, it does not appear in the reports and will go in as advertised. You can see a full list of all the advertised proposals in the document below called 'Tandridge parking review proposals 2018-19'.

These decisions are final and there is no appeal stage. We will keep an eye on the impact and effectiveness of the new restrictions and can consider if any changes are needed as part of the next parking review in Tandridge.

We have placed the order with our contractors for installation of the appropriate new lines and signs. We have also finalised the amendments to the traffic orders, which means that once the lines and/or signs are put in place, the new restrictions will come into effect. Although it does depend partly on the weather, as it is not possible to paint yellow lines on wet roads, we are hoping that this will all be completed before the end of the year.
