Temporary changes to bus services and road closures

Temporary changes or road closure information that may affect your journey by bus will be listed below when details are available. This information is supplied in good faith and is accurate at the time of publishing. Passengers should be aware that changes in road closure schedules can affect the start and length of works and checks should be made with the bus operator before travelling.

Local bus services in Surrey COVID-19 Update

Many timetables are changing due to the COVID-19 situation. The scale of the changes and the likely need for ongoing alterations, mean that timetables at bus stops may not show the current position, The following has been advised by bus operators. Further changes will be notified in the coming days, so please check this page regularly for updates, before travelling.

Concessionary Travel

To assist the elderly and disabled who may be travelling by bus to go to supermarkets which are offering special early morning shopping facilities, the bus operators in Surrey are allowing free travel for holders of Concessionary passes before 9.30am.

Timetable Changes (from Monday 23 March)

In general, it is expected that any services or journeys which would normally run on School Days only, will not operate from 23 March. Therefore, any route still operating a Monday-Friday service will be to the School Holiday version.

Grange Road, Guildford

Due to works by UKPN to install a new connection, Grange Road in Guildford will be closed from Monday 16 March for 5 days. As a result the Arriva C and Stagecoach 2 and 538 services will be affected. All bus stops on Grange Road will be suspended, and passengers looking to board the above services should use the bus stops on either Cumberland Avenue or Stoughton Road instead.

Earlsbrook Road, Redhill

As a result of gas main replacement works by SGN, Earlsbrook Road, Redhill will be closed from Monday 24 February for approximately 4 weeks. The closure will be between the junctions of St. John's Road and Brambletye Park Road. As a result of this closure, the Metrobus 430/435 service will be on diversion. The two bus stops on Earlsbrook Road and those in Royal Earlswood Park will not be served. Instead, passengers should look to board this service from the bus stops in Woodlands Road or those at the East Surrey Hospital (Canada Avenue/Three Arch Road).

Alton High Street, Alton (Hampshire)

Part of Alton High Street will be closed from 26 January 2020 for an estimated nine weeks, for works on the electricity supply.

Services serving Surrey are affected as follows:

  • 13/23 (Stagecoach) - diverted between Church Street and Lower Turk Street via Normandy Street, Orchard Lane and Draymans Way in both directions. The stops on Alton High Street will not be served. Buses towards Bordon/Haslemere will use the Lower Turk Street stop (stop E). Buses towards Basingstoke will use the stop on Draymans Way at the rear of the Swan Hotel (stop D).
  • 65 (Stagecoach) - diverted from Normandy Street via Orchard Lane and Draymans Way, terminating at the Sainsbury's stop (stop G). Buses towards Guildford will pick up at the stop on Draymans Way opposite Sainsbury's (stop F). Alton High Street will not be served.

A320 Guildford Road, Ottershaw

Due to an emergency gas leak requiring complete reconstruction and re-laying of gas mains in the area, the A320 Guildford Road, Ottershaw will be closed northbound from 00:01 on Tuesday 21 January. The section of road effected is from the Paragon Roundabout/McLaren up to The Otter/Mills & Carter Roundabout. We currently do not have an estimate for how long these works will be in place, but this page will be updated with further details when they become available.

As a result of this closure the Whitebus 446 service towards St Peters Hospital/Staines will be on diversion. Between the Six Crossroads Roundabout and St Peters Hospital the bus will divert via Woodham Lane, Woodham Park Road, Row Town, Hare Hill, Murray Road and Guildford Road.

The following bus stops towards St Peters Hospital/Staines will not be served:

  • Bleak House
  • McLaren
    (Nearest alternative bus stop: All Saints Church, Woodham Lane)
  • The Castle
  • Brox Road
  • Slade Road
    (Nearest alternative bus stop: Brox Road Post Office)

Church Lane, Headley

Due to major water main replacement works by Sutton & East Surrey Water, Church Lane in Headley will be closed from Monday 6 January. The road will be closed in 300m sections between the junction with Hurst Lane towards the junction with Leech Lane. The closures will be in place 24 hours a day, with works expected to be completed by Summer 2020.

As a result of this closure, the Metrobus 21 service will be unable to serve Headley. Travelling from the A24 Beaverbrook Roundabout, buses will instead use Reigate Road, Mill Way and Leech Lane onto Headley Common Road, with the same diversion in reverse for the return route. Bus stops on Church Lane and Headley Road will not be served.

During this closure, residents in Headley may wish to make use of the Mole Valley Demand Responsive service run by Buses 4U. This service operates throughout Mole Valley and is demand responsive, so residents will need to pre-book with them in advance over the telephone.
