What to expect from bus services during bad weather
Running bus services can be challenging when operators face difficult conditions of ice and snow on the roads. The ability to run a particular bus service can change quickly, depending on the weather and conditions on the roads.
Surrey Highways prioritise certain roads for gritting, including access roads to and from the main bus depots in the county. However, it is impossible to treat every road used by bus services and the extent of this is dependent on the stock of salt, grit or sand available and how long the conditions last.

Surrey County Council works closely with bus companies in order to help them plan their services during bad weather and operators supply regular service status reports to the council.
Bus operators work hard to maintain their services as circumstances allow, but decisions must be taken by them on health and safety grounds to ensure the well being of their customers and staff.
Please be aware that journeys could be disrupted and extra time both for the bus journey and for walking to the bus stop should be allowed. During particularly snowy or icy periods it may be better to travel only if essential.
Where services are running, they may be subject to delay or cancellation at short notice as a result of road conditions, traffic congestion caused by the bad weather or the inability of some bus drivers to get to work in the first place. Some services will need to keep to the main roads that may be passable but some parts of the route may be missed out.
