Surrey’s beautiful towns and countryside are worth protecting. Whether it’s through recycling or conservation, here are some of the ways you can make Surrey even greener.
Repurpose, reuse and recycle
Surrey Reuse Network volunteers find ways to encourage the reuse and recycling of furniture and appliances. Volunteers carry out a variety of different roles; from customer service, to raising funds by making craft items from recycled materials to sell in showrooms.
Become nature’s ward
Surrey Countryside Partnerships Team volunteers help with practical conservation work, woodwork, site monitoring and stock checking – whatever the weather.
Surrey Countryside Access Team have over 2,000 miles of public paths (rights of way) across the county to look after and rely heavily on volunteers from many conservation groups to help us do this. Come and join us – guaranteed fresh air, green exercise and like-minded company.
Surrey Wildlife Trust volunteers have plenty of opportunities to get involved; from practical conservation on reserves and educating future generations, to assisting with events and training for a career in conservation. Whether you can spare a whole day, or just a few hours, there’s a role to suit you.
Tree Wardens perform an important job in their local community. They act as a focal point for advice; promoting action, collating and giving information, and raising awareness of tree matters. Responsibilities range from informing local councils of threats to trees and ensuring compliance with tree preservation orders and planning consents, to simply keeping your eyes open for vandalism to newly planted trees.
Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development estate management volunteers help with tree clearance, hedge cutting, strimming, wood chipping, wood splitting and more at their sites in Dorking and Guildford.
Use your skills for Surrey’s hills
Surrey Hills Society volunteers have the opportunity to help the environment, without getting muddy! Roles are designed to utilise the specific skills you have, such as publicity, web or database management and events organisation.
