Update on homemade PPE in Surrey
Published: 29 June 2020
Handmade by heroes, for Surrey's heroes
Following a social media campaign back in April, we were inundated with offers of help to make Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for people on the frontline.
We identified a specific need for medical scrubs and have since matched both volunteers and NHS organisations with established local sewing groups who have been doing a fantastic job in providing high quality handmade items to local care, hospital and medical settings. We also received many donations of fabric and associated sewing materials needed to make the scrubs which we have provided to local volunteers.
The immediate situation with PPE is less urgent than it was and current demand is being met by the local arrangements and networks already in place. However an ongoing need for various items of protective clothing and PPE is likely to remain. Demand will depend on how the overall situation with COVID-19 evolves over the coming months and we will review this regularly.
We may well need to get back in touch with our wonderful volunteers if we see a sudden rise in demand for particular items. We will keep you updated!
Thank you to everyone who has got in touch to support the Handmade for Heroes campaign.
