Improving health and wellbeing through nature

Use the interactive online map to find outdoor activities available in Surrey
From woods and commons to local parks and allotments, spending time outdoors helps improve your health and wellbeing. Now a new project is aiming to provide more opportunities for Surrey residents to connect with nature to improve their mental and physical health.
How to get involved
Residents are being invited to highlight outdoor activities or spaces they know about and how they feel about them – including the local park, feeding the ducks, walking groups, litter-picking groups, or outdoor sports.
If you know of a local service, activity or opportunity in Surrey, you can use the interactive online map which is now up and running on the Commonplace website.
Community groups – whether resident associations, charities, friends of local parks, Scout or Guide groups or any other group which brings together local people – are invited to take part in designing the project. More information on how you get involved can be found on the Surrey Says website.
More about the project
The Surrey Heartlands partnership of local health and care organisations, including Surrey County Council, has secured funding to become one of seven 'test and learn' sites across the country for exploring new ways of providing wellbeing support through nature.
The pandemic has been a challenging time for everyone and has highlighted the importance of regular access to outdoor spaces so the scheme will play a part in the county's recovery and help support people who have struggled due to coronavirus restrictions.
