Your local firefighters at Oxted
The firefighters at Oxted provide personnel to crew two appliances, which is able to attend incidents in the locality and also other incidents throughout the County. They are fully trained firefighters who allocate their free time to respond to an emergency if they are paged, and they don't just fight fires. They deal with a wide range of emergencies such as road traffic collisions, chemical spills or rescues involving water.
They also work hard to educate and inform the community about the dangers of fire. This is an integral part of the job and on-call firefighters visit schools, youth clubs and other organisations offering advice to the local community on fire safety. To be considered as an on-call firefighter they must be at least 18 years of age. The job is physically demanding and a medical examination to assess fitness, eyesight and hearing is required.
The role of the firefighter involves a high level of commitment and personal discipline. They must be able to work as a member of a team and be willing to work hard in arduous conditions.
Could you be an On-Call Firefighter at Oxted?
Being a member of the Fire Service based at Oxted makes you a valued and respected member of the community. You will learn new skills and could gain qualifications including first aid or large goods vehicle (LGV) licence. You will be providing a vital service to fellow residents and businesses in Oxted, doing your bit to make Oxted and Surrey safer, and get paid at the same time. An on-call firefighter can earn up to £5,000 a year.
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is currently looking for personnel to provide cover at Oxted for week days. If you think you could help out then come along to the fire station at Potters Sandpit on Thursday evenings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm and talk to one of the crew about becoming an On-Call Firefighter.
