Following the Prevention Review in 2011, the number of dedicated education posts was reduced and the universal provision of classroom visits to children in Years 2, 5, and 8 was suspended.
The Schools Fire Safety Education Programme will now be delivered on a prioritised basis informed by local risk. Targeted provision will still be available for schools that have experienced fire setting incidents and to those schools specifically working with children with special educational or behavioural needs. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service will continue to work in partnership, with other agencies, to support the delivery of junior citizens.
By April 2020 we will begin a review of fire safety education provision in schools. We expect to complete it by September 2020 when we will contact schools with details of the new fire safety education services available
