Making Surrey Safer changes - what does this mean for me?

I live in Banstead, Egham or Painshill. What does this mean for me?

From April 2020, Banstead, Egham and Painshill fire stations will be crewed during the day from 7am to 7pm, when we know the risk is higher.

From 7pm to 7am, we will respond to any emergency with the nearest response vehicle. This may come from a neighbouring fire station, but it may be that we have a vehicle nearer than that at the time the 999 call is made.

I live in Guildford. What does this mean for me?

From April 2020, there will be one fire engine and crew available 24 hours a day from Guildford fire station. A second fire engine will be available during the day from 7am to 7pm when we know the risk is higher.

At night, from 7pm until 7am, if a second fire engine is needed, we will respond from a neighbouring fire station or Guildford's fire engine crewed by On-Call staff, whichever is fastest.

I live in Spelthorne, Camberley or Woking. What does this mean for me?

From April 2020, there will be one fire engine and crew available 24 hours a day from Fordbridge fire station. A second fire engine will be available during the day from 7am to 7pm when we know the risk is higher.

At night, from 7pm until 7am, if a second fire engine is needed, we will respond from a neighbouring fire station.

I live in Haslemere or Walton. What does this mean for me?

From April 2020, there will be one fire engine and crew available during the day from 7am to 7pm, when we know the risk is higher. From 7pm to 7am on-call firefighters will respond.

This change is expected to improve response times in these areas during weekend days.

Response model

We've modelled this response and we believe the impact on residents will be small. We will be putting more resources into business and community safety in these areas, to help to prevent emergencies happening in the first place.

We use the latest technology to constantly monitor risk levels across the county. This also speeds up response times by ensuring firefighters and the right equipment are in the right place at the right time.
