How fire and rescue developed our new Making Surrey Safer plan

We carried out a detailed risk analysis, using a range of information, for fire and rescue cover in Surrey. This included:

  • Data about 999 calls over the past 5 years
  • Predictive data which shows us where those at highest risk are in Surrey
  • Local and national statistics about fires and other emergencies

We used this information to plan the best way to manage risks, by allocating our resources to prevent emergencies from happening. We are also making sure we can respond to them more effectively when they do.

From this risk analysis, we found we had more resources at night than we need.

Our new response model has been externally verified. It allows us to redirect staff and resources into life-saving prevention work in Business and Community Safety.
