When we carried out the childcare sufficiency assessment in 2007, parents reported there were not enough affordable holiday playschemes in Surrey. In order to look at this in more detail, we carried out another research project in 2009 specifically looking at the affordability of holiday playschemes.
We surveyed playscheme providers and parents. Key findings from this report include:
- parents would use more playschemes if they were more affordable, available for longer hours and available at their child's school
- parents did not use playschemes because they are too expensive, or because they do not need to use them
- there is a lack of information around holiday schemes, including where they are, the cost of the schemes and concessions that may be available.
