There are various national testing programmes available to different people. This can depend on your workplace setting and business or organisation you work for.
- Testing for pupils and staff in educational settings
- Care home testing
- Workplace testing for all businesses
Testing for pupils and staff in educational settings
Twice-weekly symptom-free testing is available to those in the following educational settings:
- Secondary school, college, university and further education students
- Nursery, primary school, secondary school, college, university and further education staff
Undertaking regular, rapid coronavirus (COVID-19) testing of secondary school and college pupils is an additional measure to help control the spread of COVID-19. Schools and colleges continue to operate other strict infection prevention and control measures on-site.
Regular, rapid testing helps to identify pupils who have COVID-19 but do not display symptoms. Children and young people must continue to observe all other national guidance when in school and college, and when out of class.
If a child or young person has a positive rapid test result, they should follow the guidance and self-isolate immediately. A free confirmatory test should be booked for them on the GOV.UK - Get a test web page or by calling 119.
Getting a negative test result does not mean that a young person is not carrying coronavirus (COVID-19). Everyone should continue to follow the national guidance, including when they test negative. Find out more on the GOV.UK - Coronavirus web page.

Care home testing
In England, all registered adult care homes can apply for coronavirus testing kits to test the residents and/or staff of your care home. You can apply whether or not any of your residents or staff have coronavirus symptoms. Find out more and apply on GOV.UK's care home testing page.
Workplace testing for all businesses
The government's workplace testing programme has been extended to all businesses in England. This is for regular testing of employees without symptoms in the workplace. You can order free rapid lateral flow tests to test your employees twice a week in the workplace.
If you have 10 or more employees, from early April you'll be able to order tests for your employees to collect from their workplace and use at home twice a week. You can do this if you cannot provide testing in the workplace.
Any business is now able to sign up to the government's free COVID-19 workplace testing programme. Businesses are encouraged to register their interest online by Monday 12 April. For more information visit the GOV.UK's workplace testing page.
