Armed forces commemoration

Surrey's armed forces commemoration events

We have a long armed forces history in Surrey and aim to recognise and remember our armed forces community. Through local initiatives, we want to build awareness of the armed forces contribution to society past and present. The aims of the Community Covenant include the commemoration of Remembrance Day and support for Armed Forces Day.

Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show our support for the whole of the armed forces community, from serving personnel to forces families and cadets. It is also an opportunity to raise public awareness of the contribution made to our county for those who serve and who have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces.

The next Armed Forces Day is Sat 29 June 2019..

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Sunday 2019 is on Sunday 10 November; if you are holding a local Remembrance event please feel welcome to use the Surrey Calendar of Armed Forces Events below to promote this.

Armed Forces online Calendar

See 'Recognise and Remember' and 'First World War' events within Surrey using the Armed Forces online calendar. If you have an event you would like to be added to the calendar please email the relevant dates through to armedforces@surreycc.gov.uk.

Recognition - Heroes' Welcome

The Heroes Welcome Scheme enables communities across the United Kingdom to support the British Armed Forces. Where displayed the Heroes Welcome logo shows support for British Armed Forces personnel and indicates a warm welcome, service upgrade, special acknowledgement or even a little discount as appropriate.

War Memorials

The War Memorial Trust provides advice and information on protection and conservation of war memorials in the UK, as well as running grant schemes to support their repair.
