Recycling your garden waste

Recycling your garden waste...it's as easy as one…two…three!
With spring just around the corner, green-fingered gardeners will be heading back outside to get their gardens ready for the new season. Here in Surrey it's as easy as one, two, three to recycle your garden waste.
1. Compost it at home
Composting garden waste at home is the most environmentally-friendly option. It's easier than you think and cheap too; Surrey residents can buy compost bins from just £13.
2. Subscribe to your local garden waste collection service
For those unable to compost, garden waste collection services are convenient, inexpensive and residents can share subscriptions with neighbours if they don't create much waste.
3. Take it to your local community recycling centre (CRC) and recycle it for free
Residents can also take garden waste to 15 CRCs across Surrey free of charge.
Around 7,000 tonnes of garden waste was put in rubbish bins instead of being recycled last year. This is bad for the environment and the cost of disposing it uses taxpayers' money that could be spent on essential services.
As well as more obvious garden waste such as twigs and grass cuttings, Surrey residents can also recycle cut flowers, fallen leaves, house plants and hedge trimmings.
Mike Goodman, Surrey County Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning, said: "There are three great ways to recycle your garden waste. Each method is easy to do, is free or low-cost and helps Surrey residents do their bit for the environment and save money."
