Library changes due to coronavirus

Libraries continue to follow the official information and advice in opening up services.

We recommend you wear a face covering when you visit. Please use the use hand sanitiser provided. We also ask that you scan the track and trace QR code which you will find at the front entrance.

For the latest Coronavirus information and advice, please see the Surrey County Council Coronavirus webpages.

All libraries, except Frimley Green, are now back to normal opening times and we are slowly reintroducing services.

Libraries are reintroducing rhymetimes, storytimes and other events and activities. Please check individual library event pages for details.

From August 2021 we started the work to make significant changes to our IT and computer systems. For full details please see our library news page. This work continues and there is still some disruption to some IT services such as: computer access, access to online resources only available from Public computers, printing and scanning. Please see individual library pages for details about your nearest library.

Online offer

We have a brilliant online offer at Surrey Libraries with over 30,000 eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines and eComics available to access for free. These can be read online or downloaded using the Libby app and Pressreader. We are still offering a few events on our Facebook page. We also have an extensive back catalogue of over 200 videos on our YouTube channel featuring rhymetimes, storytimes, STEM activities, crafts and much more.

Safety and social distancing measures

We have comprehensive safety and social distancing measures. These include:

  • face coverings - following Government updates, it is recommended that customers wear a face covering when visiting the library, so please help to keep each other safe by adhering to this. If you are one of our customers who are exempt from wearing a face covering, we will be very happy to welcome you as normal. For more information please visit: Government Face covering guidance.
  • rigorous cleaning in our libraries and hand sanitiser provided at library entrances.
  • we may reduce capacity in some of our smaller libraries to allow everyone more space to enjoy their visit.
  • clear signs asking you to observe social distancing.
  • protective screens at counters where you need to interact with our staff.
  • reducing the amount of contact needed. Services which require close contact such as event and activities, use of public PCs and bus passes will be temporarily paused or moved online.
  • introducing a new self-issue system giving you the option to borrow items via your smart phone in the libraries.

Keeping everyone safe

We are committed to keep you and our staff safe, so we have a number of measures in place to enable us to operate in COVID secure way.
