War and Words

Surrey Libraries' commemoration of the First World War

In War and Words, Surrey libraries commemorated the centenary of the First World War.

Short story competition

Congratulations to the winner of the short story competition Mr Roy Peachey, with his story 'Scraping graveyards from the land'.

Our runner up was Ms Katherine Edwards with 'Homecoming'.

We have published both stories along with eight other stories of note as an ebook. They are currently available from the First World War short story competition page.

War and Words reading lists

War and Words reading lists cover classic and contemporary fictional views of the war and its effects. Non fiction titles cover all aspects of the war. We also showcase our stock of art, music, poetry and film.
