With 52 libraries across the county, each with its own character, events and spaces, plus a digital library available 24 hours a day, there’s always something new to explore. Whether you’re already a member or just dropping in, we’re here to help you read, learn, relax, create and connect.
Why join the library?
You’re always welcome to visit us, but becoming a member opens a world of benefits:
- Borrow from our huge range of books
- Borrow audiobooks and CD books

- Use library computers for free

- Reserve items from over 400 libraries (charges may apply, visit charges for requested items for more information)

Library membership is free and quick to set up online.
Borrowing, renewing and returning
You can borrow up to 25 items at a time, including books, audiobooks and more.
Borrowing periods:
- Books: 3 weeks (renew up to 5 times unless the item has been requested)
- Spoken word CDs (audiobooks): 3 weeks (Audiobooks have a hire charge and cannot be renewed. Charges for audio visual items.)
Late return charges may apply.
You can return items to any Surrey library, and many branches offer a book drop for out of hours returns.

eLibrary services: your digital library
As a member, you get free access to a huge range of digital services:
- BorrowBox: Borrow up to 10 eAudiobooks
- Libby: Borrow up to 10 eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and eComics
- PressReader: Read newspapers and magazines from over 120 countries in over 60 languages
All digital items are in addition to the 25 physical book allowance.
All digital items return themselves automatically, no overdue charges.
Additional online resources are available on library computers. Speak to staff for details.
Events and activities
Books are just the beginning. Every week we host events for all ages, including:
- Author talks
- Reading groups and poetry hubs
- Craft clubs and creative workshops
- Rhymetimes and Storytimes for the under 5s
- Coding clubs and Lego clubs
There’s always something going on, just ask the team or check online what is happening in your nearest library.
Volunteering
Volunteering with Surrey Libraries is a great way to learn new skills, meet people and make a difference in your community.

Library of Things
Why buy when you can borrow? Many of our libraries host a Library of Things, offering items such as:
- Carpet cleaners
- Tools
- Sewing machines
- Ladders
- Bread makers
- …and more!
This service is run with local environmental partners and currently available at: Cranleigh, Dorking, Ewell, Godalming, Guildford, Haslemere and Woking libraries.
Spaces, Support and Services
Everyone is welcome to use our spaces. We offer:
- Free Wi-Fi
- Study and work areas
- Public computers and printing
- Photocopying
- Meeting room hire
- Bus pass renewals
- Super Access (extended hours) at selected libraries
We also have services and membership types designed to support users with disabilities or difficulty visiting the library.
