A guide to countryside access

The ways in which we can access our countryside have evolved over many years and understanding the history, legislation and practices surrounding different types of paths and open areas can be complicated and sometimes a little confusing. Surrey County Council has a central role in managing access to the countryside and along with other organisations, landowners and individuals has responsibilities for certain tasks. We have produced the Countryside Access Guide for Surrey (see below) to help other organisations and individuals involved and interested in countryside access issues and management. It aims to improve understanding, clarify responsibilities and hopefully, contribute to maintaining, protecting and improving access to Surrey's countryside.
