Public Footpaths 75 (West Clandon) Temporary Closure Order 2019

Notice

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Section 14(1) and (2)
The Surrey County Council Public Footpath 75 (West Clandon)
Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2019

On 13 February 2019 Surrey County Council made the above temporary order to prohibit all traffic on foot or by any other means from entering or proceeding along that length of Public Footpath 75 (West Clandon) at a point approximately 400 metres to the west of the junction with The Street (A247), where a footbridge crosses a lake to the north-west of Clandon Park House (Grid Reference 504071, 151449).

The Order is necessary on the grounds of public safety due to an unsafe footbridge. The closure will be in operation from 14 Februaryuntil24 July 2019, or until completion of the repair works, if earlier. The Secretary of State for Transport can extend that period if required.

The temporary closure will only operate while the County Council, or an authorised person acting on its behalf, displays signs prohibiting the said movements. Access to properties will not be affected.

The suggested alternative route for users from the eastern end of the closure will be: Turn around and proceed in an easterly direction along Footpath 75 to reach the junction with The Street (A247). Turn right onto The Street and proceed along the footway in a southerly direction for approximately 400 metres to reach the junction with Epsom Road (A25). Turn right onto Epsom Road and proceed along the footway in a westerly direction for approximately 1500 metres to reach Footpath 75 located to the side of the gates and lodge houses at the entrance gate to Clandon Park at Merrow. Turn onto Footpath 75 and proceed in a north-easterly, then easterly direction through Clandon Park for approximately 1200 metres to reach the western end of the closure. The alternative route for users from the western end of the closure will be the reverse of the above.

'The Surrey County Council Public Footpath 75 (West Clandon) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2019' was made by the County Council under Section 14(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
