Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2021

On 15 July 2021 Surrey County Council will make the above mentioned temporary order, the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic on foot or by any other means from entering or proceeding along the length of Public Bridleway 6 (Godalming) which extends from a point approximately 50m west of the junction with Public Footpath 5 (Grid ref. 496413, 143706) to a point approximately 130m west of the junction with Public Footpath 577; and along the length of Public Footpath 577 (Godalming) which extends from the junction with Aaron's Hill (Grid ref. 496153, 143702) to the junction with Public Bridleway 6.

The Order is necessary on the grounds of public safety due to construction works taking place on or near the footpath/bridleway. The closure will be in operation for a period of six months from 19 July 2021, or until completion of the works, if earlier. That period can be extended by the Secretary of State for Transport if required.

The work will be done in 3 phases - see below for details of timings (please note that these dates are indicative and subject to weather conditions).

  • Public Footpath 577 (shown A to B on accompanying map) will be temporarily closed from 21 July to 13 August 2021 (Approx. 3 weeks).
  • Public Bridleway 6 west of the junction with Footpath 577 (shown B to C on accompanying map) will be temporarily closed from 16 August to 31 August 2021 (Approx. 2 ½ weeks). The Link between Aarons Hill & Godalming Station will be open during this period.
  • Public Bridleway 6 east of the junction with Footpath 577 (shown B to D on accompanying map) will be temporarily closed from 1 September to 27 September 2021 (Approx. 4 weeks).

The suggested alternative route from the southern end of Footpath 577 is via Aaron's Hill, Eashing Lane, Ockford Road, Footpath 5 and Bridleway 6. The suggested alternative route from the eastern end of Bridleway 6 is via Bridleway 6, Westbrook Road/Footpath 44 and Bridleway 6.

The temporary closure will only be in operation when appropriate road traffic signs are displayed on site by the County Council or an authorised person acting on its behalf. Access to properties will not be affected.

The Surrey County Council Public Bridleway 6 & Public Footpath 577 (Godalming) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2021 will be made by the County Council under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
