Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Section 14(1)
The Surrey County Council
Public Bridleway 269 (Shalford)
Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2022
On 6 January 2022 Surrey County Council will make a temporary order to prohibit all traffic on foot or any other means from entering or proceeding along that length of Public Bridleway 269 Shalford (Dagley Lane), from the junction with The Street (A281), Shalford (Grid ref. 500006 147640) in a south-westerly, then southerly direction to the junction with Public Footpath 269a at Shalford Common.
The permissive shared footpath and cycle path between Public Bridleway 269 and the Thames Water Depot will also be closed.
The Order is necessary on the grounds of public safety to ensure safe working areas whilst activities and works are undertaken including trial hole assessments in January, minor vegetation cut back in early February and path construction works between February and end of April (current programme which may be subject to change). The Order will be in operation from 10 January 2022 for a period of 6 months or until completion of the works, if earlier, and while the relevant notices are displayed. The Secretary of State for Transport can extend that period if required.
The temporary closure will not be continuous but managed over the specified 6-month period. This provides a window of time for any lengths to be closed when it is necessary for safe working. Where safe to do so, lengths of the route will be kept open during this 6-month period. The temporary closure will only be in operation when appropriate road traffic signs are displayed on site by the County Council or an authorised person acting on its behalf. Access to properties will not be affected and we will work to ensure access to the Dagley Lane allotments is provided. Further information will be provided on site as the works progress.
The alternative end-to-end route for traffic from the southern end of the closure will be: Proceed in an easterly direction along Public Footpath 269a to the junction with the A281/The Street. Proceed in a northerly direction along the A281/The Street to reach the northern end of the bridleway closure. The northern end of the permissive path can also be accessed by continuing further north along the A281/The Street and then proceeding in a westerly direction along Church Close. The alternative route for traffic from the northern end of the closure will be the reverse of the route described above.
The 'Surrey County Council Public Bridleway 269 Shalford Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2022' will be made by the County Council under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
