Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2014
The Surrey County Council Public Footpath 64 (Elstead) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2014 was made on the grounds of public safety due to the fact that the adjacent riverbank has been undermined and is unstable/has collapsed.
The Order came into operation on 8 December 2014. It was due to expire on 16 May 2015, but was extended to 16 May 2020. It has now been continued in force by the Secretary of State for Transport for a sixth time and will now expire on 16 May 2021 or until the danger has abated, if earlier.
The Order as continued prohibits all traffic on foot or by any other means from entering or proceeding along the length of Public Footpath 64 (Elstead) which extends from a point approximately 285 metres to the north of its junction with Farnham Road (B3001) (Grid ref. SU 9059 4407) in a north-north westerly direction for approximately 45 metres.
The prohibition described above will only be operative while the County Council, or an authorised person acting on its behalf, displays signs prohibiting the said movements. No access to properties will be affected by the temporary closure.
The alternative route for traffic from the southern end of the closure will be: Proceed along Public Footpath 64 (Elstead) in a southerly direction to reach its junction with Farnham Road (B3001). Turn right onto Farnham Road and proceed in a westerly direction to its junction with Public Footpath 65 (Elstead). Turn right onto Public Footpath 65 (Elstead) and proceed in a generally northerly direction to its junction with Public Footpath 64 (Elstead). Turn right (south) onto Public Footpath 64 (Elstead) and proceed in a southerly direction to reach the northern end of the closure. The alternative route for traffic from the northern end of the closure will be the reverse of the route described above.
