The Surrey County Council
Public Footpath No. 61 (Send)
Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2017

The Surrey County Council Public Footpath No. 61 (Send) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2017 was made on the grounds of the likelihood of danger to the public due to the footpath being undermined by the River Wey. The Order came into operation on 11 September 2017. It was due to expire on 10 March 2018 and was continued in force by the Secretary of State for Transport to 10 March 2019. It has since been extended on two further occasions and will now expire on 10 March 2021 or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order as continued will have the effect of prohibiting all traffic on foot or by any other means from entering or proceeding along Footpath No. 61 (Send) for 50 metres in an easterly direction from the northern end of the footbridge over which Footpath 61 crosses the River Wey (Grid Ref: 501573 154573).

The temporary closure will only operate while the County Council, or an authorised person acting on its behalf, displays signs prohibiting the said movements. Access to properties will not be affected.

The alternative route from the western end of the closure will be: Proceed in a southerly direction on Footpath 61 (Send) over the River Wey footbridge. Once over the footbridge continue in a westerly direction along Footpath 61 (Send) to its junction with Footpath 42 (Woking). Continue along Footpath 42 (Woking) in a westerly direction to its junction with the Wey Navigation towpath. Turn right onto Church Lane and proceed in a westerly direction to its junction with Footpath 61 (Send). Turn right onto Footpath 61 (Send) and proceed in a north westerly direction to the eastern point of the closure. From the eastern end of the closure the alternative route will be the reverse of the one described above.
