The Surrey County Council
Public Footpath 34 (Ripley) and Public Footpath 123 (Woking)
Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2020
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Section 14(1)
The Surrey County Council Public Footpath 34 (Ripley) and Public Footpath 123 (Woking) was made on the grounds of public safety due to works being carried out on and adjacent to the path. The Order came into force on 10 June 2020.
It was due to expire on 9 December 2020. It has been continued in force by the Secretary of State for Transport until 9 December 2021 or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier.
The Order as continued will have the effect of prohibiting all traffic on foot or by any other means from entering or proceeding along the section of Public Footpath 34 (Ripley) and Public Footpath 123 (Woking) as they cross over the River Wey at Walsham Lock. The closure is shown marked red on the closure plan between point A on FP 34 (Ripley) at OS GR 505072 157727 and point B on FP 123 (Woking) at OS GR 505046 157837 .
It is intended that actual physical closures of the paths will be kept to a minimum during the period of the closure; the prohibition described above will only be operative while the County Council, or an authorised person acting on its behalf, displays signs prohibiting the said movements. Prior warning of closures will be advertised on site by notice.
Access to properties will not be affected.
An alternative route has been negotiated utilising a bridge over the Wey on Wisley Golf Course with their permission. Maps showing the diversion will be posted on site. Be aware that the diversion is 2 miles long. From the southern side of the closure, the alternative route will proceed in a south easterly and then south westerly direction to the junction with Public Footpath 531 Ripley, turn to continue in a north easterly direction to join Public Bridleway 33 Ripley and then continue onto Public Bridleway 33 Ockham to join Mill Lane at Ockham Mill. Continue west along Mill Lane and onto Public Footpath 5 Ockham. Proceed in a north westerly direction to the River Wey, diverting off the path and onto the golf course where indicated. Keeping to the path, cross the River Wey by way of Wisley Golf Course Bridge and return to Public Footpath 5 Ockham to continue in a north westerly direction to meet the tow path of the River Wey Navigation. Turn left and, with the permission of National Trust, continue along the tow path to join Public Footpath 123 Woking.
The alternative route from the northern side of the closure is the reverse of the above.
In addition a temporary path has been provided from the southern side of the closure in a south westerly and then north westerly direction to enable access onto River Wey towpath for walkers wanting to continue in a southerly direction along the tow path.
The Surrey County Council Public Footpath 34 (Ripley) and Public Footpath 123 (Woking) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2018 was made by the County Council under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
