Public Byway Open to All Traffic 515 (Shere) Temporary Closure Order 2021

Notice

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Section 14(1) and (2)
The Surrey County Council
Public Byway Open to All Traffic 515 (Shere)
Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2021

On 24 August 2021 Surrey County Council made the above mentioned temporary order, the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic on foot or by any other means from entering or proceeding along that length of Public Byway Open to All Traffic 515 (Shere) /Beggars Lane, which extends from the junction with Public Byway Open to All Traffic 137 (Abinger) / Drove Road (Grid ref: 510007, 149090) in a generally south-westerly direction to the junction with Public Footpath 163 (Shere).

The Order is necessary on the grounds of public safety, due to surface damage caused by heavy summer rain, and the top wearing course being eroded. An emergency 21-day closure has been in place since 12 August 2021 and surfacing works are already underway to improve the surface.

The closure will be in operation from 2 September 2021 for a period of 4 months, or until completion of the works, if earlier. That period can be extended by the Secretary of State for Transport if required.

Works will begin shortly to rectify the gully and slippery surface, but the County Council have closed the byway for 4 months in order to give our contractor flexibility around the weather. It is unsafe to take surfacing machinery up the byway in wet weather.

The temporary closure will only be in operation when appropriate road traffic signs are displayed on site by the County Council or an authorised person acting on its behalf. Access to properties will not be affected by the temporary closure.

There is no suggested alternative route.

'The Surrey County Council Public Byway Open to All Traffic 515 (Shere) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2021 was made by the County Council under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
