Surrey ASYE Academy for Newly Qualified Social Workers

Are you a Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW)?

If so, Surrey County Council is excited to offer you the ASYE Academy, a bespoke and supportive development programme for completing your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).

Launched in 2013, the Academy offers opportunities in one of four area offices for a cohort of NQSWs, with each small group supported by a team manager.

We'll provide a framework of support to ensure your individual needs are met. Working full time, you'll have a carefully selected caseload to enable you to develop skills, competencies and confidence. A framework of support will be provided to ensure your individual needs are met. You'll also be supported by experienced managers who will manage your progress and guide you in the areas of practice and development identified for you.

Your role

You'll take on challenging and rewarding work, assisted by high quality supervision from experienced managers who also understand the particular needs of ASYE.

We have adopted a strengths based and child and family focussed approach with Signs of Safety as our predominant practice model. This focus on learning and strength will form the basis of your social work practice.

Through a carefully selected caseload, you'll gain experience in all areas of statutory children and families work and benefit from an exceptional training programme that offers coaching and reflection to bring your learning alive. You'll also have group and individual supervision and access to ASYE Support Group.

We want you to start your career in Surrey in the most positive way and stay with us to make a real difference to practice. That's why, following successful completion of your ASYE, you'll have the opportunity to be permanently based in the Assessment Service, Intervention Service, Child Protection and Court Proceedings or Looked After Children.

You'll also receive a nationally recognised certificate on successful completion of your ASYE.

You'll be based at one of our four area offices while you complete your ASYE.

Following successful completion, you'll transfer to one of our Area teams. They're based in modern open-plan offices in four locations:

  • Woking
  • Leatherhead
  • Redhill
  • Guildford

Your placement is subject to vacancies. However, your preferences will be considered.
