We are proud of our relationship with the Armed Forces here at Surrey and for that reason, we encourage reservists, ex-military personnel and service families to apply for our vacancies. We appreciate the skill-sets and positive behaviours that can be used as transferable skills for many of our roles and we understand that finding work after being in the military can often be challenging.

Our relationship

Following Surrey County Council signing the Armed Forces Covenant in 2012 and the establishment of the Surrey Civilian Military Partnership Board, we have an ever-growing relationship with the armed forces. In fact as an employer, we have been awarded the Ministry of Defence Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award for our commitment to the Armed Forces in not only recruiting ex-military personnel and reservists but also for the support we offer for our current employees.

Career Transition Partnership

Surrey has a strong relationship with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) who play a significant part in helping ex-military personnel into employment and supporting the transition back to civilian life. We have a large number of adverts posted on their website and also hold an employer focus page which is regularly updated with our news and latest vacancies.

Our commitment to the Armed Forces

In order to support our staff in their roles, we have benefits in place which include:

  • A maximum of 10 extra days paid special leave to allow for annual reservist training
  • A wellbeing and inclusion Jive group where discussions and socials can be arranged

Sandhurst Leadership Challenge

As part of being awarded the Gold Employer Recognition Award, we have been given the opportunity over the last few years to attend the Leadership Challenge Day which is held at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. This not only gives employees the chance to develop their own leadership and management skills but also offers the chance to experience the role of a reservist.
