Surrey County Council's Internship programme forms part of the employment strategy for young people and will aid in attracting and developing the next generation of the council's work force. The purpose of an internship is to give young people valuable work experience in their chosen career, help them build up a network of contacts and enhance their skills. The work of an intern will provide project and service support, enabling the intern to obtain a strong working knowledge of the sector and the work carried out by Surrey County Council.
There are two opportunities where you can undertake an internship. The length and nature of the internship will depend on what situation you are currently in when joining the organisation:
- Summer placement – a university student comes to work for the organisation during their summer break to gain work experience relevant to the course they are studying
- Sandwich year – a university student comes to work for the organisation for 12 months which is compulsory for the individual to gain their degree, this usually takes place between their second and final year at university
If you are hoping to gain work experience at Surrey County Council but have recently graduated take a look at our NGDP Graduate Scheme for these opportunities.
