Tell us about your qualification?
I have just finished my apprenticeship which was in ILM Level three in team leadership here at Surrey County Council. When I first started here I started in a Hub Team Leader role within the Recruitment team. I was given the opportunity to develop my leadership skills, which I thought was really important because I was new to the management world and I wanted to understand how I could be the best manager I could be.
What did you learn from your apprenticeship?
I found the structure of the programme really beneficial. They first got me to consider and reflect on myself as a manager. How best I communicated with the team, how I learnt as a manager and how I basically did my day to day job.
From that I was then able to understand how my team operated, how they would be best motivated and how I could understand their individual needs as well. So not only was I developing myself, but I was able to develop them further. From that I could then takeaway different tools, techniques and methods to use on a day to day basis and really help the team.
How has your apprenticeship helped you?
Overall my apprenticeship has given me a really, really good understanding of not only how to manage a team, but also how to lead a team, how to motivate them and how to lead them through times of change and new ways of working.
I have also managed to progress in my career, which I feel has really assisted me and I have now become a Recruitment Operations Manager and I am looking forward to continuing learning.
