Access to the is available for staff in certain circumstances, including those who have received notice of redundancy. Other redeployment applicants will be able to apply for positions once they have been removed from the redeployment portal and at this point, these staff are also entitled to priority consideration against other internal or external applicants.

I've seen a position I'd like to apply for, what next?

You should submit an application form using the online recruitment system.

As per the Change Management policy, if you meet the criteria for the role and it is not a higher grade than your current post, you will be contacted to arrange an interview.

If you are successful at interview the hiring manager will confirm your successful appointment through the recruitment system. The recruitment team will send you an offer letter.

If you are not offered an interview, or are unsuccessful at interview, the hiring manager should contact you to give you feedback.

Do I receive priority in the recruitment process of internal positions?

Yes, under our Change Management policy:

  • If you meet the minimum criteria for a vacant post, which is the same or a lower grade, you are guaranteed an interview.
  • If you meet the criteria set by the manager to do the job, and it is on the same or a lower grade, you must be offered the job in preference to non-vulnerable or external candidates.
  • If the role is on a higher grade, you will still be guaranteed an interview if you meet the minimum essential criteria. However, appointment will be to the highest scoring person resulting from the selection process (as this is a promotion).
  • If you have received notice of redundancy and you accept another position that is only one grade lower, you will be offered salary protection for a fixed period of one year.
  • If you are offered another position within the council you are entitled to a four week trial period in the new role.
  • You are also entitled to reasonable time off to look for alternative roles and attend training and you should speak to your manager to request this time.

I want to reject a role, what happens now?

As a redeployee you have a responsibility to be flexible in considering redeployment opportunities and not to unreasonably disregard suitable opportunities or reject suitable job offers.

If you feel a role is unsuitable you should set out your reasons for refusal and you should contact your HR Relationship team via MyHelpdesk and consider with them whether the refusal is reasonable. Failure to accept the suitable alternative employment offered could lead to a loss of redundancy payment rights and your HR Relationship team can advise on this.
