The redeployment programme

The information contained within this section is for council employees only.

We are committed to attracting and retaining a workforce that is skilled, competent and motivated.

In line with this, we have developed an offer for those who are at risk of redundancy which guarantees that:

  • Internal vacancies (unless exempted) will be advertised in the redeployment portal for seven days and will only go live on the public website once any redeployee applicants have been assessed for the role;
  • If a redeployee satisfies the essential requirements of a post, they will be invited to interview;
  • If the post is on the same or lower grade and the redeployee is appointable, they will be offered the position in preference to other non-vulnerable candidates;
  • If a redeployee accepts a new role that is only one grade lower, they will be offered salary protection for a fixed period of one year.

A set of resources has also been put together for redeployees and their current and hiring managers.

Exclusive jobs portal

Log in and password for the portal are provided in the offer of redeployment email. If you are eligible to access the portal and have not received confirmation, please raise this with your line manager in the first instance.

Further information

Redeployees can take reasonable paid time off work to secure employment outside the Council or for appropriate training. If applicable, they will also be eligible for a workplace relocation grant to compensate for extra travel to work.

If you are a redeployee, you will be entitled to a four-week trial period in a new role and will receive reasonable 'on the job' training during this time to help a successful transition.
