Since the introduction of Goods Vehicle Operators Licensing, under the 1968 Transport Act, local authorities have had a statutory right to object to applications for such licences.
The grounds of objection are restricted and can only take account of prescribed matters.
The notes below have been produced in an attempt to clarify some of the issues involved. They are also intended as guidance for local authorities when considering whether or not there are sufficient and proper grounds to object to applications for particular operating centres. It is also hoped they will clarify the procedure for submitting such objections.
