Upcoming Opportunities from Escalate Arts Community Commission

If you are a young person looking for creative opportunities in the local area, Spelthorne has an exciting year ahead. From hands-on workshops to exhibitions and festivals, there’s plenty happening to get stuck in with!

What’s upcoming?

In September 2025, Spelthorne’s Community Commission was launched to boost arts and cultural engagement across the borough. The goal is to give every young person the chance to learn a new creative skill, connect with industry professionals, and explore further opportunities at the new Staines Library Hub throughout the year.

New opportunities are already underway for young people to get involved in:

  • Photography sessions with Sam Ivin, leading to an exhibition for Young Carers Action Day in March
  • Dance and Motion Capture workshops for 6 to 11 year olds, delivered in partnership with Action for Carers Surrey.

In the coming months, look out for:

  • Virtual reality and clay workshops by Made by Katie Green at Spelthorne Libraries (Winter/Spring), exploring local heritage in creative ways.
  • A multi-disciplinary series of arts workshops with H&T Creative in partnership with;Stanwell Events this summer.

What's been done previously?

During October half term in 2025, young people took part in:

  • Circus skills workshops with IAMFlow CIC for 8 to 16 year olds from displaced communities.
  • Ceramics workshops with Riverside Arts Pottery in Sunbury.
  • Visual arts sessions with Art in Transit at Ashford Youth Club, where participants’ artwork was later exhibited in Staines for two weeks, including at the Surrey Youth Arts and Cultural Festival. This artwork will continue to tour the local community in 2026.

Why get involved?

These activities are designed to be fun, inclusive, and accessible for anyone curious about the arts or looking to try something new. Whether you’re interested in dance, photography, ceramics, or digital art, there’s something for everyone, so get involved!
