Submissions are now open to the Escalate Arts Film Festival 2026
Calling all young filmmakers aged 10 to18!
Do you have a story you want to tell? A scene you can already picture on screen? An idea that refuses to leave you alone?
The Escalate Arts Film Festival invites young filmmakers from across Surrey to create and submit an original short film of up to 10 minutes in length.
There are no restrictions on genre, style, or equipment. Whether you create a drama, documentary, animation, comedy, horror film, or something entirely experimental, we want to see your perspective and creativity brought to life. Films can be shot on a phone, camera, or any equipment available to you. What matters most is originality, storytelling, and your voice as a creator.
Why take part?
Entering the festival is an opportunity to:
- Develop and showcase your creative ideas
- Gain experience in filmmaking, directing, acting, writing, or editing
- Create something you can be proud of
- Have your work screened to an audience
- Connect with other young creatives and storytellers across Surrey
No previous experience is required. Some of the most compelling films begin with a simple idea, a clear voice, and the confidence to start.
Work independently or collaborate with friends. Build a crew or create solo. However you choose to make your film, make it your own. Your story deserves to be seen. If you are aged 10–18 and live in Surrey, or attend a school or sixth form college in Surrey, we encourage you to get involved.
Judging criteria:
- Films will be judged on the following areas:
- Originality and creativity of the concept
- Strength and engagement of the storytelling
- Effective use of music, sound, dialogue, and audio
- Use of camera work, lighting, framing, and visual composition to support the narrative
- Overall technical execution
Technical quality will be considered within the context of available resources, and entrants will not be disadvantaged by limited access to equipment or professional support.
For documentary submissions, judges may also consider:
- Strength and relevance of the subject matter
- Clarity of structure and argument
- Ability to engage and hold audience attention

- Awards Ceremony: Saturday 26 September 2026
