We want to work with cultural organisations and local artists, to deliver a vibrant programme of events and activities, which meet our project aims, providing people living in Spelthorne with:
- More opportunities to take part in arts and cultural activities, especially disadvantaged young people
- A greater understanding of what opportunities there are to take part in arts and cultural activities across Surrey, especially around skills development
- Increased confidence in their own creative skills
- Young people to feel empowered, and able to contribute towards arts and cultural development in their area

Weekly Art Club Facilitator
Location: The Library Hub, Staines-upon-Thames
Day and time: Wednesdays, 4pm to 5.30pm
Contract Type: May to December (8 months)
Fee: £27.08 per hour
About the opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and engaging artist to facilitate a weekly Art Club for young people aged 11 to 18 at The Library Hub, Staines-upon-Thames.
The Art Club provides a welcoming, supportive space where young people can work on their own creative projects, particularly art homework, with access to materials, space, and guidance they may not have at home. Alongside this, the facilitator will offer optional creative activities to inspire young people and nurture creative skills.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver a weekly 1.5 hour Art Club session during term time
- Create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for young people of varying abilities
- Support participants with independent art and homework projects
- Develop and offer a small selection of optional, pre-prepared creative activities or prompts
- Adapt sessions to meet the interests and needs of attendees
- Set up and pack down materials and workspace (15 minutes before and after each session)
- Maintain a positive, youth-centred approach that encourages creativity, confidence, and exploration
- Liaise with the project team where required
Time commitment and fee structure
Required on-site delivery: 1.5 hours per week, across 28 weeks within contract period
Contract value £2000 - inclusive of set up, planning and preparation.
Person specification
We are looking for an artist who:
- Has experience working with young people
- Is skilled in working with a variety of artistic mediums
- Can support young people with a range of abilities, including beginners and those looking to enter a creative career
- Can support all young people including those with additional needs
- Is organised and able to plan engaging content
- Is approachable, reliable, and able to build positive relationships with young people

- Basic art materials (with scope to discuss additional needs)

Outcomes
The Art Club aims to:
- Increase access to creative environments and activities for young people
- Build confidence and enjoyment in the arts
- Support young people to develop their creative skills and where relevant, complete personal or school-based projects
- Encourage regular engagement by young people with the Library Hub as a creative space
