Getting here
A delightful oasis of calm away from the urban surrounds, Grafton Stables is a 13.5-acre site situated only 12 miles from central London. This nature-rich site is a haven to wildlife with a mixture of habitats including woodland and open green space.

- There is no car park available at Grafton Stables. We advise to please park safely on adjoining roads being considerate to residents.

Things to see and do
This tranquil spot provides much needed green space to the local community and nature. The shady woodland comprises a variety of tree species such as oak, hazel, scots pine and yew, providing a safe refuge for many bird and animal species.

Key points of interest
- One self-guided trail; Fox Trail
- Part of Nonsuch Palace’s Great Park which saw Worcester Park House built as the lodge in 1607
- Gunpowder production operated in this area for centuries, beginning with mills licensed in 1588–89
- London Outer Orbital Path (London LOOP) close by
- Hogsmill River is close by where chalk from the North Downs meets London clay, creating rare chalkstream headwaters that support a rich mix of wildlife.
- The Round the Borough Hike and Bike close by is an off-road route approximately 20 miles long that joins up the beautiful spaces in Epsom and Ewell including; the Epsom Downs, Epsom Common Local Nature Reserve (LNR), Nonsuch Park, the Hogsmill LNR and Horton Country Park LNR

- Birds: Red Kite, blackcap, chiffchaff, goldfinch, egret, green woodpecker
- Butterflies: Brimstone, common blue, large white, red admiral, painted lady
- Mammals: Fox, roe deer, wood mouse

Self-guided trails
There is one self-guided route at Grafton Stables, the Fox trail. Take a photo of the information board before setting off and follow the colour coded routes and signposts along the way.
The Fox self-guided trail - 0.5 mile, 15 minute walk
Gently follow the circular Fox trail through the tranquil woodland stopping to listen to bird song along the way.
Additional information
The London Outer Orbital Path (LOOP) almost completely encircles Greater London. Nearly 150 miles are split into 24 sections between Erith station and Purfleet. It combines beautiful open spaces with historic buildings along almost flat or gently sloping sections.

In 2025, after consultation with the local community, Grafton Stables became part of Surrey’s 10,000-acre Countryside Estate, helping to protect its biodiversity for future generations. This site is owned by Surrey County Council.
