Public Footpath 49 (Guildford) Temporary Closure Order 2022

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Section 14(1)
The Surrey County Council
Public Footpath 49 (Guildford)
Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2022

On 23 June 2022 Surrey County Council made a temporary order to prohibit all traffic on foot or by any other means from entering or proceeding along the length of Public Footpath 49 (Guildford) from the junction with Public Footpath 21 (Grid reference 499534, 148718), running alongside the River Wey Navigation in a north-easterly direction, to a point approximately 50 metres south-west of the footbridge (Public Footpath 22) over the River Wey Navigation to Quarry Street (A281), Guildford.

The Order is necessary on the grounds of public safety due to works to replace the weir and bridge taking place on or near the footpath. It will be in operation from 27 June 2022 until 19 December 2022 or until completion of the works, if earlier, and while the relevant notices are displayed. The Secretary of State for Transport can extend that period if required.

The temporary closure will only be in operation when appropriate road traffic signs are displayed on site by the County Council or an authorised person acting on its behalf. Access to properties will not be affected.

The alternative route from the south-western end of the closure will be to proceed in a westerly direction along Public Footpath 21/Hitherbury Close to reach the junction with Portsmouth Road (A3001). Turn right onto Portsmouth Road and proceed in a northerly direction to the junction with St Catherine's Footpath (Public Footpath 20). Turn right onto St Catherine's Footpath and proceed in a north-easterly direction to the junction with Bury Fields, Lawn Road and Flower Walk. Continue in a Northerly direction along Bury Fields (Public Footpath 20) and then turn right onto Porridge Pot Alley (Public Footpath 20). Proceed along Porridge Pot Alley to reach Millmead. At Millmead proceed along Public Footpath 20 in a north-westerly direction, crossing two footbridges to reach the junction with Quarry Street (A281) by the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. Turn right onto Quarry Street and proceed in a south-easterly direction to reach Public Footpath 22/the footbridge over the River Wey Navigation. Turn onto Public Footpath 22 and continue over the footbridge and then proceed in a south-westerly direction to reach the southern end of the closure. The alternative route from the north-eastern end of the closure will be the reverse of the one described above.

The 'Surrey County Council Public Footpath 49 (Guildford) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2022' was made by the County Council under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
