Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2026
On 09 July 2026 Surrey County Council made the above-mentioned temporary order, the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic on foot or by any other means from entering or proceeding along that length of Public Footpath 83 (Dorking) which extends for 45 metres over a railway bridge from point A (Grid reference: 518237 149481) to point B (Grid reference: 518212 149407), and which is marked by a solid bold line on plan no. 3/1/50/H68.
The order is necessary on the grounds of public safety due to the timber deck of the railway bridge requiring replacement.
The closure will be in operation for a period of three months from 00:00 on 10 July 2026 or until completion of the works, if earlier. That period can be extended by the Secretary of State for Transport if required.
The temporary closure will only be in operation when appropriate road traffic signs are displayed on site by the county council or an authorised person acting on its behalf. Access to properties will not be affected.
The alternative route for traffic from the southern end of closure will be:
south-west via Public Footpath 83 (Dorking), south-east via Public Footpath 84 (Dorking & Brockham), north via Public Footpath 86 (Brockham), north-west via Public Bridleway 54 (Brockham), then west via Public Footpath 82 (Brockham) and south-west via Public Footpath 83 (Brockham). Total length of diversion: 3050 metres.
The alternative route for traffic from the northern end of the closure will be the reverse of the route described above.
“The Surrey County Council Public Footpath 83 (Dorking) Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2026” was made by the County Council under Section 14(1) & (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
