Surrey Arts Theatre Masterclass Fund

Surrey Arts is pleased to offer grants to Surrey schools and youth drama groups who are interested in running a masterclass workshop for their young people. A limited number of small grants will be available to youth theatres and after school drama clubs, wishing to host a theatre masterclass for young people aged 14-21 years.

Groups will be able to choose from a range of high quality exciting workshops, offered by experienced practitioners; for example:

  • commedia dell'arte,
  • audition techniques,
  • acting for film,
  • physical theatre,
  • using masks,
  • stand up comedy,
  • puppetry,
  • clowning and many more.

Surrey Arts will contribute £150 towards the cost of the artist and support the group to organise and promote the workshop.

Groups will need to demonstrate that the workshop will be open to young people in their area, not just those young people who already attend the school or club, and that it will be an extra -curricular activity, which takes place after school or at a weekend.

Applications are open to group leaders and/or young people aged between 14-21 years.

For further information, a full list of the workshops on offer, and an application form please contact

Feedback from 2013 participants

'Sheree fully engaged the whole group and the workshop was run at an excellent pace. They have all said that they would like to do other mask workshops and we are now investigating the possibility of a return visit by SAVVY and possibly investing in a set of masks so that we can develop the workshop in our own weekly sessions.'

'Annalees was fantastic as a workshop leader and I would highly recommend her to anyone (we would like to set up more workshops with her in the future). She really stretched the learners in terms of their abilities abut she also made all aspects of the workshop accessible to all learners. Her delivery was excellent as it was friendly and supportive and a number of the students have come to see me since to see if she is coming back to the school.'
