The reasons why we use your personal data
Purpose / function of the service
This privacy notice applies to the functions of the Works Communication Team (within the Local Highways Group) which is responsible for issuing roadworks communication for Surrey County Council (SCC).
What processing of personal data is undertaken by the Team?
Your personal data is collated for the purposes of communicating information about current or upcoming road works and for analysis/reporting on customer satisfaction levels (in regards to planned road works) in order to provide a service.
In addition, we collect your personal data for the following:
- Service delivery
- Service improvement and planning
- Statistical analysis and reporting
What information do we collect?
- Name
- Email address
- Address
- Telephone contact details
How we are allowed to use your personal data
The use of your personal data is necessary for the performance of a public task, including responding to complaints, enquiries and requests for information.
To process your personal data, we will explain to you what we are asking you to agree to and why. This explanation is shared on the respective webpage for each roadworks scheme.
If we have consent to use your personal data, you have the right to remove it at any time. If you want to remove your consent you can do so in the following ways:

- At the bottom of each newsletter you receive there will be an option for you to unsubscribe.
Who we share your personal data with
We share data on customer satisfaction levels with our contractors in order to improve our service. This is done anonymously meaning no personal data is disclosed and people cannot be identified.
We may share your data with Councillors and other teams or departments within the County Council, or externally, in order to respond to an issue you have raised with us or take forward an area of work.
If you choose to share your contact details with us these will automatically be stored and may be used to mediate and resolve your enquiry and any future enquiries you make to Surrey County Council. For further information please see the Customer Services privacy notice.
Automated decision making (when computers make any decisions about you)
No automated decision making takes place in the processing of personal data.
Personal data being sent or processed outside of the UK and EU
No personal data is processed outside of the UK/EU.
Retention of data
Personal data will be retained for the duration of the highway roadworks scheme (for which people have signed up to receive updates) and will be deleted once the works of the relevant scheme have been completed.
